ETV boss gives statement to court
ETV Chairman Abdus Salam yesterday gave his statement before a Dhaka court in a sedition case filed against him.
Sources said he told the court that he was not involved in any seditious activity. Further details of the statement could not be known immediately.
On January 8, a sub-inspector filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station against Salam and Tarique Rahman, BNP senior vice-chairman, in connection with a “false, fabricated and instigating” speech of the BNP leader aired on Ekushey Television on January 5.
On January 6, Salam was held from near the ETV office in Karwan Bazar and shown arrested that afternoon in another case filed under the pornography control act.
Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan recorded Salam's statement for over three hours yesterday under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and later sent the ETV boss to jail.
