Injured elephant treated, released in Sherpur forest

A female elephant that had sustained injuries was released in the forest under Madhutila Range area in Sherpur today after it was treated by forest officials.
Md Dewan Ali, range officer of Madhutila Range, said the elephant had been roaming in the hilly areas of Nalitabari upazila for around 15 days after it was separated from its herd.
The official said they traced the elephant three days ago in Dhaudhara Katabari area under the range and started tracking it before catching it this morning.
The elephant had severe wounds in her front right leg. A four-member medical team led by veterinary surgeon Dr Md Mustafizur Rahman treated the wounds for two hours. Later the elephant was released in the forest around 1:30pm, said the official.
