Three children were killed as a large chunk of earth from a hill suddenly fell on them in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Sumon Miah (15), Nahid Ahmed (14) and Abdul Kabir (9) of Islamnagar area, said Binoy Bhuson Roy, officer-in-charge of Kulaura Police Station.

The incident took place in the Islamnagar village under Bhatera union around 4pm, the OC told our Moulvibazar correspondent.

The police official said the three children entered the hill.  At this time, a huge chunk of mud suddenly collapsed on them, leaving them dead on the spot.

Safar Uddin, a villager of West Islamnagar, said the children saw the bird's nest in the Ghagrachara tila (hill) inside a rubber garden and entered a pit on the hill. At this time, the mud suddenly collapsed on them.

Locals took them to Fenchuganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead, added Safar Uddin.
