‘Wednesday 2’ gets release date

Netflix has officially announced the release date for "Wednesday" Season 2. The streaming platform strategically revealed the news yesterday—appropriately a Wednesday—alongside the first official trailer and promotional images.

The highly anticipated horror-comedy sequel will be divided into two parts, with Part 1 debuting on August 6 and Part 2 following on September 3. Jenna Ortega is all set to reprise her role as Wednesday Addams in the new season, while also serving as a producer.

Discussing her return, the 22-year-old actress shared her enthusiasm with Tudum, saying, "The most exciting part is getting to step back into her world."

Ortega continued, expressing her admiration for the character, "Wednesday Addams is one of the coolest characters of all time, so to have gotten the opportunity to play her once was incredible, and then to be able to slip into the costume and tone again, it's so much fun."

She also reflected on Wednesday's intellect and wit, noting, "She runs circles around everyone that she has a conversation with, so to play someone who's so much more intelligent than you will ever be, it's quite funny and strange and enjoyable."

The upcoming season will delve deeper into the Addams Family universe by introducing new characters, including Morticia Addams' mother, Hester Frump, who will be portrayed by Joanna Lumley.

Co-creator Alfred Gough explained how the second season will expand the story, "Season 1 really focused on Wednesday, but you met the other characters but didn't get to know them, and now we get to expand their storylines and expand the scope and breadth of the show."

Joining Jenna Ortega and Joanna Lumley in the cast are several returning and familiar faces. Emma Myers reprises her role as Enid Sinclair, while Joy Sunday returns as Bianca Barclay. Moosa Mostafa is back as Eugene, with Georgie Farmer once again playing Ajax. Victor Dorobantu continues to bring the character Thing to life, and Catherine Zeta-Jones will return as the enigmatic Morticia Addams, among others.
