Veteran Indian actor Uttam Mohanty passes away at 66

Popular Odia film actor Uttam Mohanty has passed away at the age of 66. According to Indian media outlet The Indian Express, he breathed his last at a private hospital in Gurugram, Delhi, last night. The actor had been suffering from various health complications for a long time, and he was recently diagnosed with a severe liver ailment. He was transferred to Delhi for advanced treatment.

Earlier this month, he was first admitted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he was placed on ventilation. As his condition worsened, he was moved to Delhi for further medical care.

Born in Baripada in 1958, Uttam Mohanty was a leading actor in numerous successful films. He made his debut in the Odia film industry in 1977 with "Abhiman", directed by Sadhu Meher. His very first film caught the audience's attention, and he never had to look back. His 'chocolate boy' image won over fans, making him a household name.

His filmography includes several hits such as "Nijhum Rati Ra Sathi", "Chinha Achinha", "Ramayana", "Tapasya", "Ram Balram", "Paltak", "Abhilasha", "Danda Balunga", "Puja Phula", "Jaga Hatare Pagha", "Pua Mora Kala Thakur", "Kanyadaan Chhaka Akhi Sab Dekhuch"i, and "Rajnigandha" among others. 

He had also shared the screen with Tollywood actress and MP Rachana Banerjee in multiple popular films. Additionally, his on-screen pairing with his wife, actress Aparajita, was a favourite among audiences.
