Timothée Chalamet has set a new record at the SAG Awards. The "A Complete Unknown" star won Best Actor on Monday, making history as the award's youngest recipient at age 29.

Chalamet broke the record previously set by Nicolas Cage, who won at 32 for "Leaving Las Vegas" (1995). This year he secured the award over fellow Oscar nominees Ralph Fiennes ("Conclave") and Colman Domingo ("Sing Sing"), as well as Daniel Craig ("Queer"), who the Academy Awards notably overlooked.

Chalamet's victory for his portrayal of Bob Dylan marks his first individual SAG Award after earlier nominations for "Call Me by Your Name" (2017) and "Beautiful Boy" (2018). In his acceptance speech, Chalamet reflected on the long journey to bring Dylan's story to life. "This project took five and a half years of my life," he shared. "I gave everything I had to embody the legendary Bob Dylan, a true American icon, and it was the greatest honour of my career to play him."

"I understand we work in a subjective field, but the reality is, I'm striving for greatness," Chalamet stated while accepting his award. "I know this isn't something people often say, but I want to be counted among the greats. I draw inspiration from the legends, both here tonight and beyond. I'm equally inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I aspire to reach that level. So, I'm truly thankful. This award may not represent that just yet, but it serves as additional motivation, a little more fuel to keep pushing forward. Thank you all so much."

Chalamet's win is also notable within the trends of award season. He is just the third actor to win the SAG Best Actor award after being defeated at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and BAFTAs, joining Johnny Depp ("Pirates of the Caribbean") and Denzel Washington ("Fences").

Since Oscar voting concluded before the SAG Awards, it's unclear how Chalamet's win will influence the outcome. Historically, no actor has won the Best Actor Oscar with only a SAG Award as their major precursor.
