Warner Bros is moving forward with a remake of "The Bodyguard", with director Sam Wrench attached to helm the project. Wrench previously directed the hugely successful concert film "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour". The screenplay will be written by Jonathan Abrams, who made his feature writing debut with Clint Eastwood's legal drama "Juror #2", which premiered last fall. Casting for the remake has not yet been finalised.

This announcement came from Warner Bros. Pictures Group co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy during an interview with Deadline.

Beyond "The Eras Tour", Wrench has frequently worked at the intersection of music and film. His credits include "Laufey's A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl", "A Nonsense Christmas" with Sabrina Carpenter, and concert documentaries for high-profile artistes such as BTS, Billie Eilish, and Lizzo.

The original "The Bodyguard", directed by Mick Jackson, followed the story of a former Secret Service agent—played by Kevin Costner—who is assigned to protect a world-famous singer, portrayed by Whitney Houston.

The film was a massive commercial success, earning over $400 million globally, and its soundtrack became the highest-selling for a movie ever, featuring multiple hit songs by Houston. Two of those songs, "I Have Nothing" and "Run to You", received Academy Award nominations.

In an interview with Variety, Wrench discussed his directorial approach while working on "Laufey's A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl". He explained his preference for long takes and emphasised authenticity in concert filmmaking, "I don't think the job of a concert filmmaker is there to try and portray something that didn't happen or to give it an energy that isn't there. When the music is the king, the music is the thing you follow, and you let that kind of dictate everything. But honestly, my job was fairly easy. It's such a great concert. Everyone enjoyed it. We pointed some cameras, and here we are."
