Syed Ahmed Shawki makes OTT return with ‘Gulmohar’

Following a brief hiatus, acclaimed Bangladeshi director Syed Ahmed Shawki is set to return to the OTT screen with his much-anticipated third web-series, "Gulmohar". Known for his hits "Taqdeer" and "Karagar", Shawki's latest project marks his comeback after nearly three years.
Describing "Gulmohar" as his "largest-scale work to date," Shawki explained, "This kind of fiction needed time to develop. Among all my projects, this one is the most ambitious."
Despite the high expectations set by his previous series, Shawki made it clear that "Gulmohar" will stand apart.
"I didn't carry over the pressure or mindset from my earlier works. OTT audiences always crave something new, and that's what I've aimed to deliver," he said.
While dark thrillers dominate current trends, "Gulmohar" takes a different route. Shawki explained, "I wanted to explore a family mystery rather than lean into typical dark narratives. Set in a familiar domestic space, the story unravels through layers of suspense, doubt, and subtle political undertones."
The script, dialogues, and story were co-written with Maruf Pratik.
Although the cast and release date remain under wraps, Shawki confirmed that "Gulmohar" will stream exclusively on Chorki.
CEO Redoan Rony added that the series features both veteran and rising actors, with details to be announced soon.
