Showbiz stars gear up for ‘Celebrity Champions Trophy’

After a two-year hiatus, Bangladesh's showbiz stars are once again gearing up to take the field—this time with a new name and a fresh format. Ditching the previous title "Celebrity Cricket League" (CCL), the upcoming tournament has been rebranded as the "Celebrity Champions Trophy" (CCT), set to commence on May 5.
Unlike the previous edition, which was held indoors, this year's matches will be played in open-air venues.
Moreover, instead of the 6-over format used earlier, the matches will now follow the T20 format. The tournament will feature four teams—Gladiators, Kings, Warriors, and Spartans—comprising popular faces from the country's entertainment industry.
A total of seven matches, including the final, will be played, with T Sports broadcasting the event live.
Notable names confirmed for the tournament include actors Siam Ahmed, Sariful Razz, Irfan Sajjad, Tawsif Mahbub, Ziaul Roshan, Joy Chowdhury, Sanju John, actresses Mehazabien Chowdhury, Deepa Khandakar, Tasnia Farin, Keya Payel, Sallha Khanam Nadia, Sayra Akter, Bonni Hasan, as well as singers Arfin Rumey and Zakiya Sultana Kornia.
Filmmakers Giasuddin Selim, Mostafa Kamal Raz, Tanim Rahman Angshu, and Probir Roy Chowdhury are also set to participate, among many others.
The trophy unveiling ceremony was held on Thursday (May 1), during which the names of the participating players were officially announced.
It may be noted that the last edition of the "Celebrity Cricket League" was held in 2023. The tournament had since been suspended following internal conflicts. Now, two years later, the event is making a comeback in an all-new format.
