While Denis Villeneuve continues fine-tuning the script for the upcoming chapter in the "Dune" saga, he is already eyeing a potential new addition to the franchise's star-studded cast. Although no official offer has been made yet, sources informed Deadline that there is considerable interest in bringing Robert Pattinson on board. Meanwhile, Legendary has declined to comment on the matter.

The film's cast already boasts high-profile names like Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, and Zendaya, most of whom are expected to reprise their roles. Still, several new characters are set to be introduced, as is typical with any "Dune" production. Insiders say that if confirmed, Pattinson would take on the antagonist role of Scytale. As previously noted by Deadline, filming is expected to begin this summer, with Villeneuve once again at the helm.

"Dune" is part of Legendary's sprawling science fiction franchise inspired by Frank Herbert's acclaimed book series of the same name, which won the Hugo Award. The franchise so far includes two major films — "Dune: Part One" (2021) and "Dune: Part Two" (2023) — which together grossed $1.12 billion worldwide and secured 15 Oscar nominations, winning eight, including Best Picture nods for both installments.

The universe recently expanded with the prequel TV series "Dune: Prophecy", created by "Lost" producer Alison Schapker. Set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides' rise, the series debuted on HBO and Max in November to rave reviews.

Meanwhile, Pattinson has been keeping a full schedule. The "Batman" actor just completed filming A24's "The Drama", which co-stars his "Dune" castmate Zendaya, along with "Die, My Love", directed by Lynne Ramsay and featuring Jennifer Lawrence. 

He is presently involved in Christopher Nolan's adaptation of "The Odyssey" and is also on board as a producer for A24's upcoming project "Primetime".
