Renowned for her powerful performances in critically acclaimed films such as "Padman", "Andhadhun", and "Monica O My Darling", Radhika Apte is now set to step behind the camera. The versatile artiste is making her directorial debut with an action-fantasy film titled "Kotya".

The revelation came as part of the CinéV-CHD Market showcase, coinciding with the second edition of the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF), as reported by Variety.

This year's lineup features 22 distinctive projects, spotlighting both seasoned and emerging filmmakers.

According to the report, "Kotya" will be a Hindi-Marathi action-fantasy centred on a young migrant sugarcane worker who, after undergoing an involuntary medical procedure, discovers newfound superpowers.

Armed with these abilities, she embarks on a mission to liberate her family from the clutches of debt. The film will be produced by acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane.

As part of the CinéV-CHD Market lineup, several other noteworthy projects have also been unveiled.

The selection includes upcoming films connected to renowned directors such as Hansal Mehta and Nandita Das, along with projects featuring "All We Imagine As Light" star Kani Kusruti.

Additionally, audiences can anticipate new ventures from "The Sky is Pink" director Shonali Bose and "Eeb Allay Ooo!" filmmaker Prateek Vats.

Radhika Apte was last seen in "Sister Midnight", a film that made its global debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The project later secured a BAFTA nomination in the category of Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer.

Additionally, Apte earned a BIFA nomination for her performance. The film follows her character, a woman reluctantly trapped in an unhappy arranged marriage.

Beyond the silver screen, Apte embraced a new chapter in her personal life. In December last year, she announced the birth of her child with husband Benedict Taylor.

Sharing the news on Instagram, she posted a heartfelt photograph of herself breastfeeding her newborn. The image also subtly marked her return to work after maternity leave, balancing motherhood and her artistic pursuits.
