Veteran actor and National Film Award winner Shahiduzzaman Selim continues to make waves across theatre, TV, cinema, and OTT. This Eid, he pulled off a hat-trick with three of his films—"Borbaad", "Jongli", and "Daagi"—hitting theatres simultaneously.

In a conversation with The Daily Star, Selim shared his thoughts on the exciting releases.

"It's great to see audiences turning up in large numbers for Eid films," he said. "Some titles are drawing massive crowds, which is a fantastic sign for Bangladeshi cinema."

When asked about the buzz around "Daagi" and "Borbaad" being sold out, Selim was all smiles. "That's exactly what we need—people heading back to the theatres. It's great for our film industry."

In a humorous twist, he added, "Even I couldn't manage a ticket for 'Borbaad'! I'll catch it when I can—no idea when that'll be though."

When asked which of the three films is his favourite, Selim diplomatically replied, "That's like asking a father to choose a favourite child. I love all three equally. And even the films I'm not in—they're still part of our cinema. What matters to me most is people continuing to go to theatres."

He acknowledged that it's not the first time multiple films of his dropped during Eid. "It's happened before. Sometimes I think, maybe just two would've been enough," he laughed.

On working with leading stars Afran Nisho and Siam Ahmed, Selim shared warm praise. "They're like younger brothers—dedicated and hardworking. This was my first time sharing the screen with Siam. Nisho and I go back a bit. I have nothing but love for both."

Talking about his experience with superstar Shakib Khan in "Borbaad", he noted, "We've worked together before, though we only had one scene between us in this film—in a courtroom. But we flew back to Dhaka together and had great conversations. He was caring and very friendly. I really appreciated that."

In conclusion, regarding the idea that Bangladeshi cinema has become too Eid-centric, Selim offered his perspective: "A good film can succeed at any time of year. It all depends on direction, acting, and story. There are plenty of examples of off-season hits. Eid isn't the only window—quality always finds an audience."
