This Eid-ul-Fitr, the overwhelming popularity of Bangladeshi films has led Star Cineplex to halt screenings of Hollywood blockbusters at its branches nationwide. Initially, the multiplex scheduled local and international films, hoping to offer a diverse cinematic experience. However, due to the overwhelming demand for domestic productions, the organisation has shifted its focus entirely toward Bangladeshi releases.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, senior marketing officer at Star Cineplex, confirmed that since yesterday, only Bangladeshi Eid releases have been shown across all branches and that they will continue this way until further notice.

Six local films hit the Cineplex screens this Eid: "Borbaad", "Daagi", "Jongli", "Chokkor 302", "Jinn 3", and "Antaratma". Alongside them, Hollywood titles "Mufasa: The Lion King" and "Captain America: Brave New World" were also scheduled. However, ticket demand for Bangladeshi films quickly reached high expectations, leading to the discontinuation of Hollywood titles.

However, currently, four Bangladeshi films remain on the roster after "Jinn 3" and "Antaratma" were removed due to low turnout. Among the remaining titles, three have been drawing massive crowds, with many screenings completely sold out even on the 14th day of the film release.

Producers and directors have expressed gratitude for the support, praising Cineplex's decision to prioritise local films. "We're amazed by the audience's response," said Mesbah Ahmed. "Every week, we adjust our schedule based on audience turnout. With Hollywood films removed, we've increased the showtimes for local movies, and we expect this momentum to continue for at least another month."
