A sequel series to the 1995 cult classic "Clueless", with Alicia Silverstone reprising her iconic role as Cher Horowitz, is currently in development at Peacock.

Silverstone, who will also serve as executive producer, is set to headline the project from CBS Studios in association with Universal Television.

The new iteration is penned by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of "Gossip Girl" fame, along with "Dollface" creator Jordan Weiss.

Amy Heckerling, writer-director of the original film, and producer Robert Lawrence are also attached as executive producers.

CBS Studios, which holds the television rights to the Paramount feature, previously attempted a reboot centred on Stacey Dash's character Dionne. That project, which was also set for Peacock, did not move forward.

This time, with Silverstone back on board as Cher and a new creative team in place, the project was once again pitched and ultimately landed at Peacock, which had maintained interest in a "Clueless" series.

A previous half-hour sitcom adaptation of "Clueless", also created by Heckerling, aired from 1996 to 1999—first on ABC and later on UPN.

The show starred Rachel Blanchard as Cher, with Dash reprising her role as Dionne.

Loosely based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel "Emma", both the original film and series followed the life of Cher Horowitz, a wealthy and fashion-forward teenager navigating high school life in Beverly Hills.

The upcoming "Clueless" series is the second notable Paramount/CBS intellectual property sold to a streaming platform in recent months, following "Little House on the Prairie", which is currently in development at Netflix.

Schwartz and Savage are also co-showrunners on Amazon's "Sterling Point" series and have produced shows including "Nancy Drew", "City on Fire", and the "Gossip Girl" reboot.

Jordan Weiss, who co-wrote and directed "Sweethearts" for Max, is also a writer on the upcoming "Freakier Friday" sequel.

Following a well-received Super Bowl commercial appearance in character as Cher, Silverstone is set to appear in the Acorn TV series "Irish Blood", the indie feature "Pretty Thing", Yorgos Lanthimos' "Bugonia", and the Netflix holiday film "Merry Little Ex-Mas".
