Acclaimed Dhaka-based theatre troupe BotTala is set to stage the 92nd performance of its celebrated production "Khona" on April 18 at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Directed by Mohammad Ali Haider and penned by Samina Luthfa Nitra, "Khona" delves into the life of the legendary astrologer Lilabati, popularly known as Khona.

The play explores themes of gender, class, and power structures, presenting a narrative that, despite being rooted in events from 1,500 years ago, remains strikingly relevant today.

Since its debut during the centenary celebrations of International Women's Day at the Central Shaheed Minar, "Khona" has garnered widespread acclaim both domestically and internationally.

The production has been lauded for its compelling portrayal of Khona's defiance against patriarchal norms and her quest for equality.

The upcoming performance will feature a talented ensemble cast, including Kazi Roksana Ruma, Ivan Riaz, Imran Khan Munna, Toufiq Hasan, Sharmin Iti, Sheuti Shahgufta, Kamaruzzaman Saeed, Hafiza Akhtar Jhuma, Chandan Pal, Abdul Kader, Pankaj Majumdar, Rishadur Rahman Rishad, Layeka Bashir, Palash Nath, Sanjida Yasmin, Sumit Tiwari, Rewaj, Srishti, and Ontu, among others.

BotTala views this performance as a celebration of Bangladesh's rich cultural heritage, coinciding with the onset of the Bengali New Year 1432.

The troupe believes that "Khona", set to commence at 7pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring struggles and resilience of women throughout history.
