A R Rahman accused of copying song

Currently, A R Rahman is not experiencing the best of times. On Sunday, police stopped Rahman's event in Pune. The artiste would leave the venue quietly and would later tweet, "See you all very soon."
Now, the composer has landed himself in some brand-new trouble. His song, "Veera Raja Veera" from Mani Ratnam's "Ponniyin Selvan 2" has stirred up a lot of controversy. Rahman was given the responsibility of composing the film's music. Now, Delhi-based dhrupad artiste Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar has alleged that A R Rahman copied the tune for "Veera Raja Veera" from his father and uncle's music.
Mani Ratnam's production house, Madras Talkies, has called this claim 'a complete lie'. According to them, Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar is spreading this propaganda as a cheap publicity stunt and for money. The song "Veera Raja Veera" is actually taken from the composition of 13th century composer, Narayana Panditacharya.
In the meantime, Ustad Wasifuddin had already sent a letter to the Oscar-winning composer. "Madras Talkies and A R Rahman should have taken permission from my family. I have not said that I would not allow it, right? The melody of the song has been changed in the performance."
Directed by Mani Ratnam, "Ponniyin Selvan 2" was released on April 28. The original film was released in 2022.
