A new documentary, "One to One: John & Yoko", offers an intimate look at John Lennon and Yoko Ono's early years in New York following the breakup of The Beatles.

Co-directed by Oscar-winning Macdonald and Sam Rice-Edwards, the film highlights the couple's transformation from global icons to outspoken activists embedded in the radical culture of early 1970s America.

The documentary features restored footage from Lennon's 1972 benefit concerts at Madison Square Garden for the Willowbrook State School, showcasing energetic performances of songs like "Come Together" and "Instant Karma".

It also includes private phone recordings of Lennon and Ono, offering candid conversations with friends and collaborators, alongside rare clips from their appearances on talk shows such as "The Dick Cavett Show" and "The Mike Douglas Show".

"This guy is wearing his heart on his sleeve," Macdonald said, calling Lennon's vulnerability "really endearing." The film captures the couple's efforts to push beyond mainstream politics and social norms, documenting a period marked by both creativity and idealism.
