AR Rahman responds to Abhijeet’s criticism over excessive use of technology in music

Singer Abhijeet recently criticised Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman for what he termed as an excessive reliance on technology in music production. In an interview with ANI, Abhijeet alleged that AR Rahman's approach had sidelined traditional instrumentalists and left many jobless.
In response, Rahman addressed the remarks during an interview with India Today, saying, "It's nice to blame me for everything. I still love Abhijeet, and I would send cakes to him. Also, it's his opinion, and there's nothing wrong with having one."
Reacting to Abhijeet's claim that he contributed to the decline of live instrumentation, the singer clarified, "I recently set up an orchestra with 60 women in Dubai. They are being employed every month and are being paid insurance, health, and everything. In every movie that I do, be it 'Chhaava' or 'Ponniyin Selvan', there are close to 200–300 musicians involved, and some songs have more than 100 people working on them. I don't show off or post photos with them, and thus no one gets to know about it."
AR Rahman further noted that digital tools are used to create complex harmonies, which would otherwise be challenging to achieve.
In a competitive industry, he added, it is not feasible to record with musicians and then discard their contributions. He also mentioned that the producers he has worked with could confirm the number of collaborators involved in his projects.
Rahman's recent works include Vicky Kaushal-starrer "Chhaava" in Hindi and "Kadhalikka Neramillai" in Tamil.
He is currently composing for Aamir Khan's production "Lahore 1947", Mani Ratnam's "Thug Life", and Aanand L Rai's "Tere Ishq Mein".
