A train rammed a horse cart near Mohimaganj railway station on Sunday night, killing the horse and rider.

Witnesses said, horse cart owner Sekender Ali, 60, of Salmara village in Gobindaganj upazila was alone on the cart when he was going by the road alongside the rail track around 9:00pm.

At that time, a Lalmonirhat-bound mail train was heading for Mohimaganj rail station.

Seeing the horse cart by the side of the rail track, the loco master of the train blew whistle which caused the fear-stricken horse to jump on the track and hit by the running train.

The bodies of horse and the rider were cut into pieces under the train. The cart became mangled and thrown a few yards away. The horse and rider Sekender Ali died on the spot.

A case was filed with Bonarapara GRP station, said Taslimuddin, station master of Mohimaganj railway station.

In a similar incident, at least 11 people, including two kids, were killed and 60 others injured as a train hit a bus carrying a wedding party while it was crossing a rail gate at Barobazar in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah on August 1.

The bus was carrying the wedding party from Shailkupa upazila to Shako village in Kaliganj upazila. The bride and bridegroom, however, were safe as they were travelling by a microbus.
