Sangbad newsman's bail prayer rejected

A court here yesterday rejected the bail prayer of a journalist who was arrested under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on October 31.

Arrestee Anisur Rahman, 33, is son of Israfil Haque of Kattimari village in Jadurchar union, and Roumari correspondent of the daily Sangbad.

“Anisur was arrested on October 31 for allegedly taking a screenshot of a fake Facebook photo of the president and the prime minister and showing it to some people. Police produced him before a court on November 1 that sent him to jail,” Anisur's lawyer advocate Ahsan Habib Nilu said. 

“I prayed for his bail to the District and Sessions Judge's Court on November 13, which rejected the prayer yesterday after hearing,” Nilu said.

President of ward No 5 of Jadurchar union Jubo League Shah Kamal Sarkar filed a general dairy under Section 57 of the ICT Act with Roumari Police Station on September 8 against two people, including Anisur.

The main accused Sumon Mia, 24, son of Abdulla Mia of Dhanarchar village, had posted a fake photo of the president and the prime minister on his Facebook page. He is absconding.
