Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen AKM Mostafa Kamal Pasha today said there are only nine doctors against 141 posts at jails across the country.

“But we are working to resolve the issue through various ways,” he told reporters after inspecting the Narayanganj district jail in Sadar upazila this noon.

He also said they have already held a meeting with the ministries concerned. “Prime minister has given directives in this regard. We are working in light with the directives,” he added.

“Our goal is to make the inmates feel like they are not in jail,’’ he said adding that the prime minister does not want to see the jails as jails. She wants to see those as rehabilitation centres, he added.

The IG prisons also pointed out various developments brought about in the country’s jails.
