‘Thief’ dies in Comilla mob beating

An alleged thief was killed in a mob beating while he was stealing money from a mosque donation box at Nangol Court upazila in Comilla early today.

Identity of the deceased, aged around 27 years, could not be known immediately, a Daudkandi correspondent reports quoting Salauddin, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Nangol Court Police Station.

The theft was announced by a security guard of the mosque at Manikbura Bazar, the OC said.

He added, "The thief was stealing money after breaking the donation box around 3:30am."

Responding to the announcement, locals caught the thief and gave him a good beating leaving him dead on the spot, the police official said.  Police recovered the body for autopsy.
