Tax return: Officials to work extra hours

The field offices will be accepting income tax returns for as long as the taxpayers keep coming today, the last day for tax return submission, according to a press release of the NBR.
The individual taxpayers are crowding field offices for completing the last minute tax related formalities.
The reason behind the long queues at field offices is said to be because NBR this year made it mandatory for the government officials with a basic salary of Tk 16,000 or higher for submitting tax return.
Officials were seen submitting time petitions and applying for TIN certificates.
All tax offices have been open even on the weekly holidays since November 21 to facilitate submission of income tax returns by individual taxpayers within the deadline (November 30).
This year, the government has termed November 30 as Tax Day.
