A Russian national has reportedly died of alcohol poisoning at a private hospital in Rajshahi, police said.

The deceased, Sergei Smolenkov (43), was a worker at the under construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna's Ishwardi, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting Shahadat Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajpara Police Station.

Sergei was admitted to CDM Hospital at 5:15pm and he passed away 15 minutes later, the OC said quoting the hospital officials.

"They (hospital officials) told us that he was admitted with reports of drinking too much alcohol. They provided a death certificate that reads he died due to cardio-respiratory failure," the OC said.

His body was kept at the mortuary of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The body would be sent to the morgue for autopsy tomorrow.

The process of filing a case was underway in this connection.

Meanwhile, in April last year, a Russian engineer died and two others were hospitalised after drinking locally-made liquor.
