In a pragmatic effort, police today started visiting different places in Manikganj to oversee whether those who returned to the country from abroad are maintaining the conditions of home quarantine to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Rifat Rahman Shamim, superintendent of police in Manikganj, visited the house of a woman who returned from Hong Kong three days ago, around 5:00pm and asked whether she was maintaining the home quarantine guidelines. He had taken precaution before visiting her, wearing a mask and gloves.

The police official also asked the woman to strictly maintain quarantine to curb the spread of coronavirus in the area, reports our local correspondent.

Later, Shamim also visited the house of a Saudi expatriate, who returned seven days ago, at Uchutia village in the area and advised him to stay in quarantine for 14 days.

"I will continue the drive in the people's interest," Shamim said, adding that high-placed officials in the police department are engaged in carrying out regular drives in different areas to prevent the spread of the virus.

Besides, Shariatpur district police started distributing leaflets in the area from yesterday to create awareness of how to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
