One killed in clash at Gopalganj mosque

A man was killed and 10 others injured following a clash over offering prayers in a mosque in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj this morning.
The deceased was Sujan Sheikh (25) of Bahara village, where the clash took place, our Faridpur correspondent reports, quoting police.
There has been a longstanding conflict between Mujibur Sheikh and Badsah Matabbar of the Bahara village over establishing supremacy, said sub-inspector Nabo Kumar of Muksudpur Police Station, quoting locals.
Both groups got into an altercation this morning at around 6:30am, the SI said.
One group wanted to follow the government directive according to which only five persons would be allowed to pray at the mosque at a time, while the other group wanted to adhere to traditional norms, the police official added.
At one stage, they locked in a clash with weapons, leaving Sujan dead on the spot, he said.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, the SI said.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Gopalganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy, added the SI.
