Shahadul Islam Sefat and Shipra Debnath, both Stamford University students, today expressed hope that there would be a fair investigation into the death of Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, cautioning people against believing rumours.

Speaking to reporters in Cox's Bazar, Shipra said, "Lots of rumours are going around. We do not want misleading news."

She said both of them were very upset now because of the trauma they had gone through.

"Give us a little time. We will talk about everything. We will tell every truth."

"Please, pray for us. Sefat and I are very grateful to you. You were by our side and will be by your side. That's all for now," she concluded.

Meanwhile Sefat told reporters that he was doing well, both mentally and physically.

"I was not shot in the leg. It's a rumour. Hopefully there will be a fair investigation. Give us a little time," Sefat said.

Earlier around 2:15pm yesterday, Sefat came out of Cox's Bazar Jail after a Cox's Bazar court granted him bail in two separate cases.

Stamford students Sefat, Shipra Debnath and Tahsin Rifat Noor were in Cox's Bazar to shoot a travel video for Sinha's YouTube channel named "Just Go".

Thirty-six-year-old Sinha, who served in the Special Security Force (SSF) and took voluntary retirement from the army two years ago, was killed in police firing at a checkpost, triggering an uproar across the country.

Sefat, who saw the shooting, was accused in a murder and a narcotics case by Teknaf police.

After Sinha got killed, Ramu police picked up Shipra and Rifat early on August 1. Police handed Rifat to his parents' custody, but arrested Shipra under a narcotics case.

She got out on bail on Sunday.
