Police arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami-backed councilor candidate for Sreepur municipality in Gazipur this morning.

Mobarak Hossain Shamol, son of late Abdul Awal, was arrested while campaigning in Chonnapara area at 9:30am, our Gazipur correspondent reports.

There are at least eight cases including vandalism against the Jamaat leader, said Mujibur Rahman, a sub-inspector (SI) of Sreepur Police Station.
