Dainik Azadi, 4 other Ctg dailies to resume publication tomorrow

Dainik Azadi, a Bangla daily newspaper published from Chattogram and four other dailies which suspended publication on July 30 will resume from tomorrow.

The president of Newspaper Owners Alliance in Chattogram M A Malek today confirmed the matter after a meeting Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) today. BFUJ also met owners of the other dailies later today.

Chattogram did not see any publication of local dailies since July 30 after Chattogram Union of Journalist (CUJ) lay siege to the residence of M A Malek, editor of Dainik Azadi, on July 29 demanding full payment of bonus to employees ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Following the incident, editors of five local dailies in an immediate decision announced suspension of their publication.

MA Malek told The Daily Star that he decided to print Azadi from Saturday after his employees withdrew their membership from CUJ.

"They sent the mass withdrawal of their membership to CUJ through registered courier. Apart from this, a delegation of BFUJ met me at my residence on Friday. All developments led to the decision of resuming the issue from tomorrow," he said.

Mohammed Ali, president of CUJ, told The Daily Star that there was a meeting between CUJ and BFUJ leaders.

Following the meeting, a delegation comprising from both organisation members met M A Malek at his residence where he agreed to bring the issue from Saturday, he said.

The misunderstanding has been resolved, Mohammed Ali added.
