Bangladesh Chhatra Union today suspended eight leaders of its different units, including the central committee, for violating rules and disciplines of the organisation.

The organisation also formed convener committees after dissolving committees of Dhaka city unit and private universities unit, a Bangladesh Chhatra Union press release signed by central committee Office Secretary Mahir Shahriar Reza said today.

Seven of the leaders were suspended for six months. They are: Central Committee unit vice president Shampa Das; Dhaka University unit's president Shakhawat Fahad, general secretary Ragib Naim, assistant general secretary Meghmollar Basu; Dhaka City unit's president Tasin Mallik, general secretary Billal Hossain, organisational secretary Sadat Mahmud.

Aishwarya Ahmed, foreign, science and technology affairs secretary of Chhatra Union's central committee, was suspended for one month for violating rules of the organisation's constitution.

The organisation's national council meeting be held on March 12, the release added.
