CAAB inks deal with Chinese firm for Sylhet airport extension projecct

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh today signed an agreement with a Chinese company for construction of a new terminal at MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet.
Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) has been awarded to build international passenger and cargo terminal buildings, Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, passenger boarding bridge, parking apron, taxiway, car parking zone and link roads at the country's third largest airport within around three years.
The project work will be carried out at a cost of Tk 2,116 crore to increase the airport's passenger handling capacity to 20 lakh from the current 6 lakh annually.
CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman and BUCG Country Chief Harold Huang signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides at the CAAB Headquarter in Dhaka's Kurmitola, said a press release.
On March 11, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved the CAAB's proposal for awarding the contract to BUCG for the Sylhet Osmani International Airport extension project.
Six firms submitted their bids for the project where BUCG turned out to be the lowest bidder.
