Behind-the-scenes architects of Bangabandhu killing need to identified: Law minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq today said a commission is much needed to find behind-the scenes architects of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members' killings on August 15, 1975.

"If the instigators who were behind the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, are not identified and if their masks not removed, they will continue to conspire against Bangladesh," he said.

The law minister was presiding over a virtual meeting organised by the ministry of law on the occasion of 45th death anniversary of Father of the Nation and the national mourning day where he made the comments.

Minister Anisul Huq said disgruntled army officers had not only killed Bangabandhu but also killed most of his family members who were in Dhaka on August 15, 1975, in order to kill Bangladesh and its independence.

Bangabandhu's daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana fortunately were saved as they were abroad at the time, he said.

Joint Secretary to the law ministry Bikash Kumar Saha moderated the function where Law Commission Chairman and former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque, Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Md Mainul Kabir, Inspector General of Registration Md Shahidul Alam Jhinuk, National Legal Aid and Services Organisation Director Md Saiful Islam and Judicial Administrstion Training Institute Director Golam Kibria spoke through video conferencing, a law ministry press release said.
