After Begumganj gang rape, two more women raped in Noakhali

A pregnant woman was raped in Noakhali's Senbagh upazila, while another woman was raped at gunpoint in the district's Chatkhil upazila. Both took place in the victims' homes and in both occasions perpetrators filmed their crimes to blackmail the women.

Police arrested three people -- Shuvo, 18, Hasan, 18, and a seventeen-year-old boy -- in connection with the case filed over the rape in Senbagh on October 9.

The victim had filed the case against eight named people and 5-6 unnamed people with Senbagh Police Station last night.

Police arrested the three soon after, but the main accused, Parvez, remains absconding, said M Tarek Rahman, sub-inspector of the station.

According to the case statement, Parvez, along with 10-12 others, went to the victim's house on the night of October 9, where he raped her and the others filmed the incident.

Later, Shuvo, Hasan and others handed over the video to the victim's husband after she refused to pay them Tk 30, 000.

The victim's husband left the house the same day.

In Chatkhil, police arrested Mujibul Rahman Sharif, 32, for allegedly raping the wife of an expatriate and capturing it on video early today.

The alleged rapist was arrested from Yeasin Hazi Bazar area in the upazila hours after the victim filed a rape case with Chatkhail Police Station this noon, said Md Anwarul Islam, officer-in-charge of the station.

According to the case statement, Sharif entered the house of the woman early in the morning and raped her at gun point. He also confined two of her children to another room.

The man tortured the victim physically during the rape and recorded his crimes.

He threatened her with posting the video on social media if she refused him again, added the statement.   

The victim was sent to Noakhali General Hospital for medical test, said the OC adding that Sharif, also accused in eight other cases, including firearms and robbery ones, will be produced before the district court tomorrow.
