176 BNP-Jamaat men held in five districts
At least 176 BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men were held in Rangpur, Chapainawabganj, Bogra, Jhenidah, Satkhira and Faridpur districts yesterday and the day before.
In Rangpur, police in separate drives arrested 12 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in Mithapukur upazila and the city in the last two days, reports our correspondent.
The arrestees are Akmal Hossain, 55, principal of Tanjumul Millat Cadet Madrasa, Abu Sayeed, 50, principal of Kutubpur Degree College in Badarganj upazila, Ekramul Haque, 30, Nurul Azam, 28, Golam Kibria, 44, Ferdaus Mian, 35, Moklesur Rahman, 30, Lutfar Rahman, 32, Nurun Nabi, 28, Badal Mian, 35, and Altaf Hossain, 19.
They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities in the areas, said Additional Superintendent of Police Joynal Abedin.
According to our Chapaianwabganj correspondent, the law enforcers arrested 13 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat- Shibir in three upazilas of the district yesterday and the day before.
The arrestees include Mizanur Rahman, 50, ameer of Rahanpur municipality unit of Jamaat, Tasirul Islam, 40, president of Sramik Kalyan Federation of Nachole upazila unit, and its Bholahat upazila unit sura member Nazrul Islam, 47.
The arrestees were accused in several cases, said police.
Away in Bogra, police arrested 20 BNP-Jamaat men in the district yesterday, reports our correspondent.
They were arrested in cases for sabotage, arson and vandalism, said Police Superintendent Md Asaduzzaman.
In Jhenidah, police arrested five Jamaat men in the district town on Friday night, reports our correspondent.
The arrestees are Khairul Islam, 23, of Bishoykhali village, and Saiper Ali, 50, of Shalia village in Sadar upazila; and Samad Biswas, 50, Md Abdullah Hossain, 51, and Jihad Ali of Ramchandrapur village in the upazila.
They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities in the area, said ASP Ajbahar Ali.
Meanwhile, police arrested 53 Jamaat-Shibir men in Satkhira district in the last two days.
Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain confirmed the incident, reports UNB.
In Faridpur, the law enforcers arrested 73 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir in the district yesterday and the day before, reports UNB.
They were arrested on sabotage charges, said police.
