1,387 children fall victim to violence in last 6 months: BSAF

Some 1,387 children across the country faced different forms of violence in the last six months since January, according to a study of Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF).

Of them, 365 children were harassed sexually, 227 were raped and 122 others murdered between January 1 to June 30, the BSAF, a platform campaigning for child rights, said in a press statement today.

Apart from this, 122 children were killed in road accidents and 208 others drowned, according to data collected from different reports published in 15 national newspapers.

Some 79 died by suicide and 143 others also died due to other reasons, said the study.

Besides, 41 children went missing, 51 kidnapped, 61 assaulted physically and 139 were affected by coronavirus, said the study.

The organisation, however, did not include data from March 15 to April 15 due to the countrywide government's shutdown, according to the press statement.
