Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Hakim Sarkar of Islamic University (IU) has been removed from his post.

Chancellor of the university President Abdul Hamid removed him under IU Act 1980's 10(1) yesterday, said Abdul Latif, acting registrar of IU.

The Ministry of Education has issued a notification in this regard.

The notification, however, did not mention any cause for this removal.

Sources at the university said the VC was involved in various irregularities and corruption during his tenure.  

Earlier on February 2, the Education Ministry asked the university authorities to halt all sorts of recruitment process temporarily in the wake of allegations of corruption and irregularities.

Apart from halting the recruitment process, the ministry also asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to conduct investigation into illegal recruitments done by the university authorities.
