One with Covid-19 and five others with symptoms die in 6 districts

A 30-year-old man died of Covid-19 in Patuakhali's Dumki upazila and at least five others, including a freedom fighter, died of coronavirus-like-symptoms in five other districts yesterday.
The man from Dumki was a garment factory worker in Narayanganj, a cluster of the outbreak in Bangladesh. He managed to reach his village home on Sunday.
Learning about his arrival in Dakkhin Dumki area, officials ordered him to self-quarantine at home. As he started showing symptoms, health department officials on Tuesday collected samples for tests.
The report that he tested positive reached the village around 3:00pm, about an hour after his death yesterday, said Patuakhali Civil Surgeon Jahangir Alam.
This would be the first confirmed death from coronavirus in Barishal, officials said.
In the five other districts, officials collected samples from the deceased, and ordered their family members and neighbours to self-quarantine.
In Narsingdi's Alok Bali Purbapara area, a 30-year-old pregnant woman, also a garment worker in Narayanganj, died hours after reaching home defying the lockdown. She had a high fever and cough, said Imrul Kayes, additional deputy commissioner.
In Brahmanbaria's Akhaura, a 40-year-old woman who also returned to her home at Ranikhar village last week from Narayanganj, died after suffering from fever and persistent cough for two days, officials and locals said.
In Barguna's Amtali upazila, a 72-year-old freedom fighter and ruling Awami League leader died with breathing difficulties. Civil Surgeon Humayun Khan Shahin of the district said even though he had pneumonia, it was being tested whether he had a coronavirus infection.
In Pabna's Santhia upazila, a 50-year-old woman, who was ordered to self-quarantine on Tuesday, died with Covid-19-like symptoms at her home in Dhulauri village.
In Gazipur, a 35-year-old man died with breathing problems in Sreepur upazila. His family members were taking him to Sreepur Health Complex when he died, said ASM Fateha Akram, resident medical officer of the hospital.
