Ensure food assistance for Bangladeshi migrants: Foreign minister to Middle East envoys

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has asked all Bangladeshi ambassadors to Middle Eastern countries to ensure Bangladeshi migrants get food assistance if needed.
The eleven ambassadors were also asked to focus on making sure the migrants can get back to work once the Coronavirus pandemic ends and businesses resume.
The minister made the remarks through a video conference today.
The ambassadors and heads of missions of Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Libya, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman attended the video conference.
The government has allocated Tk 5cr and some Bangladesh missions are already providing food. However, some migrants said the assistance is not nearly enough.
Some Middle Eastern countries are also reportedly pressuring South Asian governments, including Bangladesh, to bring back undocumented migrants, migrants in deportation centres and in jails.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen also took part in the video conference.
