Waliullah Bhuiyan, founder and chief executive officer of education startup Light of Hope, won the Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards 2018.

He is one of the eight entrepreneurs chosen by Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership for this year's awards from 2,120 applicants, and the first from Bangladesh, said a press release.

Waliullah won the award for developing Sputnique -- a solar-run, flexible multimedia classroom solution that fits inside a backpack, developed by Light of Hope. It helps teachers to take live classes from a central location to multiple locations using a low-bandwidth video-calling software.

So far, it helped to provide better education to 75,000 children in Bangladesh.

Speaking about Sputnique, Waliullah said, although the journey began with facilitating digital schooling using solar panel, laptop and mini projector, the main concern was to spread its wing in remote areas. Currently many development organisations are using the device, he added.
