University teachers, journos seek vote for 'boat'

Presidents and general secretaries of 33 public university teachers' associations yesterday sought vote for “boat”, the electoral symbol of Awami League, to “continue the process of peace and development”.
The teachers issued a statement in this regard, which was written on the official notepad of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association, signed by Dhaka University Teachers' Association General Secretary Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam.
In the last 10 years, development took place in various sectors including education and those were highly appreciated at home and abroad, read the statement.
“For the sake of its continuation, we are urging people to support the candidates nominated by Sheikh Hasina, to take the country forward under her leadership,” it added.
Meanwhile, under the banner of “Joy Bangla Sangbadik Mancha”, a group of journalist leaders yesterday urged people to vote for “boat” in the December 30 election.
Addressing the rally in front of Jatiya Press Club, Prime Minister's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said, “To continue the democratic process and build 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, it is necessary to re-elect Sheikh Hasina as prime minister.”
“We are urging everyone including journalists to vote for boat,” he added.
Among others, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Secretary General Shaban Mahmud, Senior Vice President of Jatiya Press Club Omar Faruque, Dhaka Union of Journalists General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury and former general secretary of Dhaka Reporters' Unity Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo were also present at the programme.
