A traffic policeman was beaten allegedly by a bank official at Chowhatta in Sylhet city today.

Police arrested Tanjil Ahmed, manager of Sunamganj district branch of Palli Sanchay Bank and son of Forid Uddin of Uttar Dubag village of Beanibazar upazila in Sylhet, our Sylhet correspondent reports quoting police.

The injured traffic policeman, Mohammad Ali, was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Zedan Al Musa, additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), said Ali was on duty in Chowhatta area of the city this afternoon when the bank official tried to pass a road by violating traffic rules.

Following an altercation between them, at one stage, the bank official forcefully snatched Ali’s hand baton and beat him indiscriminately, the ADC said.

A case was being progressed in this connection till filing this report around 10:40pm.
