Tk 1,077cr dev projects for Rajshahi residents

The Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA) is implementing 11 development projects involving around Tk 1,077.59 crore for elevating the living and livelihood conditions of the city dwellers.

Abdullah al Tarique, executive engineer of RDA, said a road-widening project from Court to Bypass road is being implemented, involving around Tk 106.58 crore.

The project has the provision of constructing 2.25km bituminous road carpeting, 3,010-metre RCC drain with common duct, eight RCC culverts, 4,500-metre water, electricity and gas supply lines each and 2,250-metre T&T line along the four-lane road.

The RDA is also constructing another 5km four-lane road from near RUET campus to Bypass road at a cost of around Tk 159.29 crore.

It will also implement another project to make Rajshahi Metropolitan Development Plan impervious to disaster risks through updating the Effective Mega and Detailed Area Plans at a cost of around Tk 18.36 crore.

“We are going to establish 'Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Square' at Talaimari crossing with an estimated cost of around Tk 59.28 crore,” said executive engineer Tarique.

Majority work on Barnoy Residential Area Development project was completed.

Major works of the Tk 69.56-crore project are: development of 227 residential plots, construction of 1.86km single-lane road with bituminous carpeting, 4,086-metre RCC drain and 18 culverts, and water and power supply to the entire area.

At present, there are five other projects in the pipeline involving Tk 694.97 crore. Three new connecting roads -- one from Shalbagan to Sucharan crossing via Kapasia, another from Binodpur to Halidagachhi and the last from Chhotobangram to Meherchandi -- will be constructed.

Captain Monsur Ali Park will be modernised and the Parijat Lake will be developed to attract more visitors. RDA has a plan of vertically extending its five-storey building at an estimated cost of around Tk 21.04 crore.
