Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury has tested positive for Covid-19.

Mayor Ariful's test report came positive at the RT-PCR laboratory of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College today, his personal secretary Muhibul Islam Emon confirmed to The Daily Star. He is 61 years old.

"The mayor is at his residence and taking rest now. His physical condition is good," Emon said.

Earlier on June 2, Ariful's wife Shama Haque Chowdhury tested positive for Covid-19 and later recovered.

Meanwhile, Sylhet City Corporation's Chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman has also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
