Independent University, Bangladesh, has a new vice-chancellor. Dr Tanweer Hasan, Rolf A Weil Professor of Finance at Roosevelt University (IL, USA), has joined the university as its new VC, effective from February 23.  

Dr Hasan has been appointed by the President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of the Universities for a four-year term, a press release said.

Prof Hasan has had a distinguished career so far. He served in various administrative capacities, including associate provost at Roosevelt University (planning and budget), associate dean and director of MBA programme, and founding executive director of the finance honours programme at the College of Business of the same university. As associate provost, he was also involved in developing new programmes like its PharmD Program and joint programmes like MBA/IO Psychology, MBA/MS Criminal Justice, MBA/Health Care Administration, etc. 

Prof Hasan obtained his PhD in Finance from the University of Houston in 1993.  He completed his MBA from Baylor University (TX, USA) in 1989 and Bachelor of Commerce in finance from University of Dhaka in 1986. Dr Hasan also completed the Management Development Program (MDP) from Harvard University (MA, USA).

Prof Tanweer has more than 40 published articles in reputed business and economics journals. He served as editor, guest editor, and editorial board member of several journals and also presented his works in 37 countries.
