Obituary

Justice AKM Nurul Islam, a former vice-president of Bangladesh, died of old-age complications at Apollo Hospital in the capital yesterday. He was 92.

He was also a former law minister, former chief election commissioner and former judge of East Pakistan High Court.

He left behind his wife poet Jahanara Arzu, two sons and a daughter. One of his sons Ashfaqul Islam is now a judge of the High Court.

Nurul Islam's body will be taken to the Supreme Court premises today and his namaz-e-janaza will be held there after the Zohr prayers.

He will be buried in their family graveyard in Manikganj today, said Khurshid Alam Khan, a Supreme Court lawyer and editor of Dhaka Law Report.
