Impartial probe demanded

Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission (CHTC) yesterday demanded impartial investigation into the killing of a school student in Bandarban on Monday.

Kya Thing Aung, 14, was killed during an exchange of fire between an army patrol team and criminals in Rowangchhari upazila.

CHTC demanded that the perpetrators be immediately identified and brought to book, and asked the government to ensure safety for the boy's family, said a press statement.

It also condemned killing, abduction of women, rape, murder and failure to ensure justice for victims in hilly areas.

The statement was signed by Sultana Kamal, Elsa Stamatopoulou and Myrna Cunningham Kain -- co-chairpersons of CHTC.
