Illegal, adulterated and counterfeit drugs worth around Tk 30 lakh were destroyed yesterday after a joint team of drug administration and Rapid Action Battalion found the items at a medicine warehouse in Barishal city.

The warehouse is located in the wholesale medicine market in the city's Kathpatti area.

A district administration mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate SM Robin Shish, conducted the drive.

The court also fined 5 pharmaceutical stores in the market a total of Tk 12,000 for various violations. 

Shawkat Hossain Razu, drug superintendent in Barishal, said, "We found some drugs that can cause great harm as those are substandard in quality or are adulterated. Some do not even have any registration." 

During the two-hour drive, a large storage facility was found unattended and it was full of all illicit medicines, he added. 

The joint team destroyed the recovered medicines in the evening.
