'AvGeek' Sam Chui lands in Dhaka

Internationally-acclaimed aviation enthusiast and blogger Sam Chui is visiting Bangladesh. During his short trip, the main purpose of which is to travel in and experience the national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Chui is meeting up with airline officials, fans, and aviation geeks.
Sam announced his trip to Bangladesh on his social media accounts on March 3. He informed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts that he would be taking Biman to fly from London to Dhaka via Sylhet. Furthermore, he announced that he would be flying four of his fans from Dhaka to Chattogram and back, giving them a taste of his “avgeek” lifestyle.
He arrived in Dhaka on March 4. Yesterday morning, he took part in a meet-and-greet with his fans at the Biman Airlines Training Center in Uttara.
“Personally, I had a wonderful experience flying with Biman. It may not have the best reputation among airlines, but there are many positive takeaways and I'm sure the government and authorities have plans to improve it,” Chui said to the audience. He was accompanied by Shakil Meraj, general manager, Public Relations of Biman, and answered questions from participants, including Biman officials, engineers, and trainee pilots.
Later yesterday, the public relations office of Biman hosted a press conference at Balaka, the head office of the national carrier. Meraj thanked Sam for taking the initiative to visit Dhaka and help spread the word about the services, facilities and flight experience of Biman.
“Sam Chui has a great presence in social media and aviation industry. We are delighted to have him in Dhaka, to give him a taste of the hospitality that we are known for around the world. As Biman plans to grow in 2019, it is important for us to spread the word,” said Meraj. He also mentioned that Biman will be adding more destinations and aircrafts in the coming months, including two new Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its fleet.
“I have seen the human touch in Biman's services. Their treatment, especially of elderly passengers, is remarkable. I really felt the warm hospitality of Biman and the Bangladeshi people, and I want to feature that in my videos,” Sam said.
Today, he will be flying to Chattogram and back with four lucky fans -- none of whom have been on a plane before. As seen in his YouTube videos, Sam will be vlogging the entire process, reviewing the airport services and aircrafts, talking about the in-flight meal and entertainment system, and getting into conversations with the cabin crew. On his departing flight on March 7, Sam will be flying to Muscat, Oman in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner of Biman.
Born in China, Sam Chui spent his childhood in Hong Kong and Australia, travelling extensively over the years. He has travelled to over 100 countries, flown over 1,800 flights and published three books, sharing his passion with almost 1,00,000 subscribers of his YouTube channel.
