Eminent educationist, cultural and sports organiser Prof Amir Ahmed Chowdhury Ratan died of old age complications at a Dhaka hospital on Thursday night. He was 79.

The valiant freedom fighter was president of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote Mymensingh unit and was affiliated with Awami League. He was also founder and ex-headteacher of Mukul Niketon High School.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at the city's Anjuman Eidgah ground after Juma prayers, following which he was laid to rest at his village in Hasanpur of Phulgazi upazila in Feni.
