Md Ali Akbar, who is currently serving as the district and sessions judge of Cumilla, has been appointed registrar general of the Supreme Court.

The law ministry made the appointment as per desire of Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

The same ministry yesterday issued a gazette notification on this appointment, saying that the service of Ali Akbar has been handed over under the chief justice in order to appoint him on deputation.

The order was issued for the public interest, the gazette notification added. 

The post of the SC registrar general felt vacant after the then SC Registrar General Md Zakir Hossain was appointed a judge of the High Court Division of the SC on October 20.
